Learn the fundamentals of transmission and distribution line work through hands-on training with our excellent instructors. Students will learn both in and outside of the classroom with state of the art equipment and world-class instruction.

Coming soon: Substation courses are currently being designed which will teach industry best-practices and help you to build highly marketable skills.

  • Wooden Pole Climbing Techniques- 40 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 36 hours yard practice.
  • Math and Electrical Theory- 40 hours. 16 hours for math, 24 hours for electrical theory, all classroom.
  • Job Briefing- 4 Hours. Classroom and practice exercises.
  • Intro to Transmission- 8 Hours. 2 hours classroom, 6 hours field practice.
  • Intro to Distribution Construction- 16 Hours. 2 hours classroom, 14 hours field practice.
  • General Safety 1- 4 hours Classroom.
  • Intro to the Power Grid- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Intro to Grounding- 8 Hours. 3 Hours classroom, 5 hours field practice.

  • Watt-Hour Meters- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Electrical Theory Review- 8 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 2 hours lab practice.
  • Transformers- 24 Hours. 12 hours classroom, 12 hours lab practice.
  • Fuse Coordination- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • General Safety 2- 4 hours Classroom.
  • Grounding Principles and Equipotential Grounding- 8 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 4 hours field practice.
  • Electrical Instruments and Applications- 8 Hours. 5 Hours classroom, 3 hours lab practice.
  • Sagging Line Conductors- 8 Hours. 3 Hours classroom, 5 hours field practice.
  • Line Construction- 16 Hours Field Work.
  • Intro to Transmission- 8 Hours. 2 hours Classroom, 4 hours field work.
  • Hazardous Energy Control Procedures- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Personal Protective Equipment- 8 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 2 hours lab practice.

Third Year

  • Special Equipment- 24 Hours. (Covers reclosers, Regulators, Capacitors, Pad Mounted Switchgears, Sectionalizers and Arresters.) 16 hours classroom, 8 hours lab and field practice.
  • Cover-up Procedures for Pad Mounted Equipment- 8 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 4 hours field practice.
  • Cover-up Procedures for Overhead Equipment- 16 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 10 hours field practice.
  • Special Live Line Tools- 8 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 2 hours lab practice.
  • Electrical Theory Review- 8 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 2 hours lab practice.
  • Safety 3- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Intro to Troubleshooting- 16 Hours. 2 hours classroom, 14 hours field practice.
  • Minimum Approach Distance- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • System Protection Coordination- 8 Hours Classroom.
  • Transformer Review- 8 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 4 hours lab and field practice.
  • Supplemental Online Training- 12 Hours. (Substations, Testing and Test Facilities, Underground Electrical Installations, Lock Out Tag Out, Grounding, Excavation, Shoring and Trenching Safety.)
Forth Year

  • Hot Sticks and Hot Sticking Procedures- 16 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 12 hours field practice.
  • Troubleshooting procedures- 8 Hours. 2 hours classroom, 6 hours lab practice.
  • Primary Phasing- 8 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 4 hours lab and field practice.
  • Cover-up Procedures for Overhead Equipment- 16 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 12 hours field practice.
  • Cover-up Procedures for Pad Mounted Equipment- 8 Hours. 3 hours classroom, 5 hours field practice.
  • Transformer Review- 12 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 8 hours lab and field practice.
  • System Protection Coordination Review- 8 Hours Classroom.
  • Grounding Review- 8 Hours. 3 hours classroom, 5 hours field practice.
  • General Safety 4- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Distribution Automation- 4 Hours Classroom.
  • Special Equipment Review- 8 Hours. 4 hours classroom, 4 hours lab practice.
  • Substation Overview- 8 Hours. 6 hours classroom, 2 hours field practice.
  • Supplemental Online Training-12 Hours. (Bucket Rescue, Electrical Clearances, Hazardous Energy Control Procedures, Overhead Lines and Live Line Barehand Work, Working on or Near Exposed, Energized Parts, Substations, Sling Safety.)

fifth year

Upon the completion of your fourth year, you will be assigned to a company for the duration of one year to complete one year of paid obligatory employment. This commitment will not only grant you education and experience in the field of line work, but will open up the door for a guaranteed position amongst one of the companies.
